Preparations for Ukraine’s EU membership negotiations (28.02.2025, Kyiv)
On February 28, 2025, a simulation session was held on the negotiation chapter “Education and Culture” – an important step in Ukraine’s preparation for EU accession negotiations. The main objective of the event was to train for the upcoming bilateral meetings between Ukraine and the European Commission scheduled for April 2025 in Brussels.
During the session, Yevhen KUDRIAVETS, First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, together with the Ministry’s team, presented the country’s progress in implementing education reforms and key policies aligned with European strategies and standards, including:
- The Law “On Preschool Education”, ensuring equal access to quality education for children and promoting gender equality;
- Policies on early childhood development, primary and secondary education;
- Comprehensive transformation of higher education: increased institutional autonomy, equitable access to higher education through public grants, enhanced student-centred and inclusive approaches through individual learning paths, and the modernisation of the higher education network in response to demographic changes and other challenges;
- Cooperation with EU programmes supporting the education system;
- Horizontal policies and progress in digital and green transitions;
- Vocational education policy, including the draft Law of Ukraine “On Vocational Education”;
- Government initiatives on employability and lifelong learning;
- Anti-corruption measures in the field of education.
The session brought together representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, the Government Office for the Coordination of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, as well as European and Ukrainian experts who provided recommendations for enhancing national policies and aligning them with EU standards.
Svitlana SHYTIKOVA and Zhanna TALANOVA from the National Erasmus+ Office – Ukraine, and Svitlana KALASHNIKOVA from the eTwinning Support Office also took part in the simulation session.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine continues to consistently implement European integration reforms, ensuring access to quality education and expanding opportunities for Ukrainian students, teachers, and researchers across Europe.
